640_2014_05_18_11_46_03The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday expressed opposition to gays joining the Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo.

CBCP Public Affairs Committee executive secretary Fr. Jerome Secillano said the faithful should not turn the Flores de Mayo andSantacruzan into a beauty pageant, a fashion show or any form of entertainment because the activities have religious roots.

Flores de Mayo, or the Flowers of May, is a month-long expression of devotion to the Virgin Mary. The Santacruzan is a religious procession held on the last day of the Flores de Mayo in honor of Queen Helena of Constantinople and Constantine the Great for finding the Holy Cross in Jerusalem.
